D. Brent Polk, MD, a distinguished researcher and clinician, was named chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, and chair of pediatrics and vice president of academic affairs at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in April 2010. Polk, who came to USC from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., serves as professor of pediatrics and biochemistry and molecular biology at the Keck School. Polk’s research focuses on epidermal growth factor and tumor necrosis factor receptor family member signaling mechanisms leading to proliferation, differentiation or migration of intestinal cells and the relationship between inflammation and how tumors grow.
